Every student wants to pursue a course that can offer them career prospects in the future. Although medicine and law are considered to be the top sought-after career paths, there are so many more exciting careers that exist now compared to twenty, or even ten, years ago. With the accelerated pace of digital advancement across sectors, the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Deep Learning (DL) are quickly emerging as viable topics and areas of study that can lead to enriching, successful, and in-demand careers.

Digitization shaping the job market and the Rise in STEM

The pandemic-induced digital revolution caused a rapid digital shift across nearly every industry. For businesses, digital adoption emerged as the go-to strategy for survival and growth. Amongst the plethora of newly adopted technologies, AI and DL skills have been gaining prominence within the job market. As expected, the global shift to remote work has ignited a pressing need for IT service providers and technologists. In a recent 2021 report, LinkedIn estimated that we can expect over 150 million new technology jobs to be created globally in the next five years.

There are so many career avenues and openings to choose from in STEM fields and our ApplyBoard data shows that there’s a lot of interest from international students in STEM programs across destination countries including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

In fact, IT and Computing remains one of the top program search terms used by international students on ApplyBoard’s study abroad platform. This booming interest can be seen in the more than 150,000 international students who were enrolled or working in computer and information science fields in the United States in both the 2018/19 and 2019/20 school years. This trend also is prevalent in other countries: for example, in the UK, new international student enrollments for computing programs at domestic institutions rose by nearly 50 per cent from 2015/16 to 2019/20.

Students should keep in-demand tech skills on their radar

Artificial Intelligence can be integrated with any number of applications, ranging from chatbots to healthcare, cybersecurity to supply chains, and ed-tech to automobiles. AI can not only analyze customer purchasing patterns and predict future trends, it can also be used to create dynamic feedback systems or in discovering more efficient processes. Deep Learning, on the other hand, is a cutting-edge branch of Machine Learning that is just getting introduced in many industries. DL is based on complex artificial networks which attempt to emulate human intelligence by learning from example data sets and then self-expanding into new or different possibilities. Deep Learning has re-ignited the AI revolution in many industries and has become an integral element in many fields.

AI and DL technologies are critical in completing all kinds of simple and complex functions. They have redefined the way we live and carry out our organizational operations. This is the reason why technologists and engineers have some of these most in-demand skills that companies and recruiters look for.

Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning: The new-age viable career options

As the demands for these tech solutions increase, organizations need professionals with the knowledge of these emerging technologies who can drive businesses efficiently using their expertise and experience.  Those pursuing a career in these domains will be able to explore job opportunities in various multinational corporations and global firms. Prospective students can expect to apply for and consider a wide range of positions within their careers, including software engineers, electronic engineering systems analysts, data scientists, AI architects, big data engineers, and data insight analysts. Students looking to study in these growing fields can take advantage of specialized courses and new opportunities developed by various education institutions and platforms who are looking to adapt to these shifting industry trends.

In summary

Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning are strong prospective fields of study, and AI and DL skills will give students a competitive edge after they graduate. AI and DL programs offer a secure and bright future and jobs in these markets will continue to soar in the years to come.

In today’s digital-driven world, advanced technologies such as AI and DL influence our lives. The power of human intelligence is unparalleled, and embracing technology and implementing it to reap the most optimal benefits will require human intervention for the foreseeable future.
