In a move to offer better living conditions and lifestyle to the underprivileged section of the society, SRM Valliammai Engineering College successfully concluded their NSS Special Camp -2022, under their ‘Renovating Homes of Citizens below Demarcation’ theme. The week-long camp which commenced on 14thMarch effectively renovated 4 houses in Irular Habitation, Periyaputheri Village, near Senneri, Chengalpattu District. The NSS Unit of the Institution organized this special camp to reconstruct, renovate and beautify damaged houses.

Commenting on the occasion, Dr.B.Chidhambararajan, Principal said, “We conclude this camp here with extreme delight and gratification. Our institution always strived for making better livelihoods for underprivileged people around us. Our students are not only taught to excel in academics and extracurricular activities, but also to give back to the society they were raised in. We are expecting to renovate more houses in the upcoming years. We thank each and every one who stood by this camp and supported us. We wish all the happiness and success to the beneficiaries”.

Since adoption of this village in the year 2020, the NSS Unit of the Institution has renovated a total of 10 such houses in Periyaputheri Village itself. It had also done many rehabilitation activities even during the pandemic period for them. Prior to this the volunteers of NSS have also constructed 15 Indian Household Latrine (IHL) at Nallampakkam & Nedungundram and 10 Communal Toilets at Ozhalur village. The NSS unit is well-known for its year-round activities from its inception for the past over one decade by conducting Blood donation camps, Swatchh Bharat Activities in Rural and Urban Areas, Road Safety and Traffic Awareness Program, Helmet Awareness Programs, Planting Tree Saplings, Repair and Painting works at the Government Schools and Hospitals, Coastal and Pond Cleanup Drives, Plastic Wastes Shramdaan and Preach for Corruption free India for the betterment of the society.
