Keeping the tenets of the Constitution in mind the Institute of Legal Studies, Shri Ramswaroop Memorial University (SRMU), Legal Aid Cell organized a day-long legal aid camp on 13th May in order to sensitize people to free legal aid and to spread legal awareness among the people of Hadauri Village, Barabanki. The students reached out to the villagers through foot rallies, and door-to-door surveys and provided legal guidance and advice. The students of BA /BBA/BCOM  LL.B. (H) VIII semester and LL.B. VI semester under the supervision of Dr. Sushil Kumar Singh,  Dr. Devendra and Ms. Samiksha Pandey participated in the Legal Aid Camp. Around 30 students took part in this free legal aid camp.  The legal aid camp was successful and the villagers expressed their gratitude to the university and students.

“The main purpose of the legal aid camp was to spread awareness on fundamental rights, and legal recourse available to the disadvantaged section of our society in case of any legal issue. Moreover, our law faculty is committed to the upliftment of socially and economically weaker sections of our society. We even have a well-established legal aid cell in our university, where our students along with faculty members, provide free legal aid to all needy persons,” said Dr. Sushil Kumar Singh, Associate Professor and Convenor, Legal Aid Cell, SRMU.

Dr. Devendra, Assistant Professor, SRMU opined that “Legal aid is a welfare provision by the state to people who could otherwise not afford counsel from the legal system. Through this legal aid camp, we tried to reach maximum rural people and asked them to approach our university’s legal aid cell with their legal problems for free legal advice on the same”

Rohan Mohanto, Student Convenor, Legal Aid Cell, SRMU expressed his gratitude as been a part of this legal aid camp “I feel blessed to be a part of this free legal aid camp. It was an enriching experience for me as we did something for society at large. I firmly believe this free legal aid camp will go a long way in ensuring that no one is deprived of free legal aid as guaranteed by our Constitution.”

Mridul Bhatt, Student Convenor, Legal Aid Cell, SRMU  stated that “The concept of legal aid encompasses a broad range of activities that aim at social advancement by creatively utilizing the instrument of law. The experience was very good as it made us understand the true need for legal aid and helped us to utilize our classroom concepts on a day to day problems of individuals.”
