The United Arab Emirates University has made awards to several faculty members in recognition of their excellent contributions to the fulfilment of the university’s vision through distinction in scientific research or service to the university and community.

Professor Abdulhameed Murad, College of Science and Professor Khaled El Tarabily, College of Science received the Excellence Award for scientific research. Professor Omar Al-Deeb, College of Engineering, Dr Najwa, Al Hosaini, College of Education, and Professor Fatima Al-Maskari, College of Medicine and Health Sciences received the Excellence Award for service.

Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, the Cultural Advisor to His Highness the President of the UAE, and the University explained that the awards signal the importance to the university of a culture of professional excellence and continuous organizational development and celebrate faculty members whose performance achieves international standards. The awards recognize individuals who, through their performance, fulfil the university’s responsibility to advance national wellbeing and sustainable development.

The Chancellor underlined the importance to the university of individuals who helped transform the standards of the university’s services, the results of its departments, and the effectiveness of its functions. The university places great value on leaders and teams who through their work advance innovation, entrepreneurship, and continuous learning.

The University Awards for Excellence are made against strict performance criteria. In research, faculty members must make a significant contribution to their disciplinary field through a record of publications in highly ranked international peer-reviewed journals. The publications must be recognized for their value by being highly cited by the peer community. Faculty must have secured and completed externally funded programs of research and fostered the intellectual growth of early career scholars through supervision of Master and PhD theses and mentoring of staff. In service, faculty members must have a sustained record of a broad range of activities that are of value to the operation of the university and the wellbeing of the community. The faculty member must demonstrate a commitment to high standards and successful leadership in several or one major activity. The faculty member’s service must be recognized as of high value and importance by their peers in the discipline, by professional associations, and the general public.
