IIAD participated as a Knowledge Partner with the Confederation of Indian Indian (CII) – DQ Labs in the Design Hackathon 2021.

Design Hackathon is a national inter school design competition that aims to raise students’ awareness in “Design Thinking” and “Design Doing”. This was the 3rd edition of the competition and was organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to & DQ Labs with the support of The Deens Academy.

Industries employ “Design Thinking” as a problem-solving technique. Design Thinking is a way of approaching a problem and then coming up with solutions. It is applied to products, services, education, and everyday life.

The Design Hackathon inspired young students to learn the “Design Thinking” approach and use it to understand a problem and find a solution. Students from classes 8 to 10 made up the junior groups, while students of classes 11 and 12 were designated as senior groups. After completing the assignment, the students were in a better position to understand the concepts of “design thinking” and “design doing” as problem solving techniques.

The Design Hackathon was organized in a Virtual Exhibition space called CII Hive. This platform emulated a physical space in a digitized world. The exhibition space had auditoriums, conference rooms, and meeting rooms. The Indian Institute of Art and Design (IIAD) was a designated knowledge partner for the Hackathon. Students of year 3 and 4 from IIAD were Design Mentors for 36 teams. The Design Faculty from the Institute guided and counselled the participants.

The Hackathon was very well-received by the attendees, and the event went off without a hitch. The competition results will be announced at the CII INDIA DESIGN SUMMIT award ceremony in December 2021.
