One of the unfulfilled wishes of Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was to ensure that every youth of India has access to good books and quality knowledge. He aspired that there should be a free library in every village and even the remotest corner of the country and that the youth of the nation should have access to books as a matter of right.

The Kalam Library Project is based on this unfulfilled wish of Dr Kalam and was founded by Srijan Pal Singh who was Dr Kalam’s close advisor and co-author for many years. This mission aims to empower the youth with the power of knowledge so that they realize that nothing is impossible in life.

In essence, this is how the next generation has to be built from the roots of India.

As the Coronavirus pandemic continues to grip countries across the world, scientists and researchers are working day and night to come out with a vaccine. While that is happening in the labs, there also has been a paradigm shift towards increasing mental and physical health to fight coronavirus.

Emphasizing the need to boost mental health and spread positivity in these distressing times, Kalam Centre inaugurated the first Kalam Library of the country in the “Atal Samvedna Center (COVID-19 Center)” in Surat, Gujarat by MLA Harsh Sanghvi. The library has a collection of over 60 books and 20 magazines to cater to the needs of patients of all age groups. Books include biographies of great leaders, religious scriptures, storybooks and motivation guides.

Speaking about the library, Srijan Pal Singh, CEO of Kalam Centre said that “Dr Kalam used to say that we must have positive access to every circumstance in life. I wish that this Kalam Library in the Corona Care Centre becomes the source of positive energy to all the Indians combating coronavirus.”
